“Imagination is the bridge between the things we know for sure and the things we need to believe when our world becomes unbearable.”- Staceyann Chin
Jamaican-born Chin is a full time artist, poet and activist, powerfully speaking about sex, culture, politics, race and sexuality. Currently living in New York, she pops up at poetry slams, rocking the mic and the crowd, leaving them breathless, speechless and full of wonder and hope.
Twenty-nine year old Chin has been performing and writing for quite some time, making awards winning appearances at her one woman shows Off-Broadway in 2000 and 2001 (Hands Afire and UNSPEAKABLE THINGS), Def Poetry Jam and documentary films (self titled), among many others.
Chin has performed in London, Denmark, Germany, and New York and her works have been published in various magazines and journals.
CaribbeanTales is pleased to bring you a short video clip of Staceyann Chin performing at this year's Calabash festival.
